You Need Golf Swing Drills

By Patrick L. Jensen

How many golf swing drills are you doing? If you are like most weekend golfers it might not be enough to see a difference in your game. Here are a few golf swing drills that may help you improve your game.

Golf Swing Drill - Leg Drill

One mistake that golfers tend to make is trying to swing to hard with their upper body. While an upper body swing is important, you are loosing much of your power in your golf swing if you are not utilizing your legs. Your legs are a very important part of your swing and should not be forgotten. Once, you start to incorporate your upper and lower body into your swings, you will certainly see a dramatic improvement.

Try this golf swing drill the next time you are warming up for your next round. Start with your legs together and begin to go into your backswing. Once you are at the height of your backswing stop. Take a step powerful step forward and swing with your hips. Let your arms and the club swing through on the proper swing path with minimal effort from the top half of your body. You should do this as many times as you think necessary before your rounds of golf. Eventually, your body will remember this motion and you will begin to use your legs more and more in your swing. Golf swing drills for your legs are excellent.

Golf Swing Drill - Short Game

Today, everyone seems to be obsessed with the long ball. Becoming a long golfer is great but there is more to a good golfers game than hitting the long ball. So while your practicing, don't forget about your short game. Ultimately, it's your short game that is going to take the most strokes of your game. Even the longest of the big boys know that they have to have some sort of a short game to compete.

So, the next time you go to the driving range, keep that driver in the bag. Pull out one of your shorter clubs and hit one hundred balls at two of the shortest flag sticks. You can buy another bucket to practice getting longer (after all it is a driving range) but concentrating on your short game will pay off big in the end.

Are you doing enough golf swing drills to lower your score? Many golfers neglect these simple golf swing drills and their games are suffering because of it. If you are looking for more power and distance off of the tee, chances are you may be able to find some more power in your legs. But always remember, you can be as long as the pros but if you don't have a half way decent short game, your score is never going to be where you want it to be. Try the above golf swing drills and you should begin to see a dramatic difference in your game in no time.

More Information On Weighted Golf training Clubs

Hitting the ground before the ball, or "fat shots" is a very common problem that can lead to injury. This is caused by either coming into the ball too steeply, and/or decelerating the club head as you hit the ball. Proper weight shift is important and keeping your right shoulder back on the downswing (opposite for left handers) is crucial. There is a tendency to throw the right shoulder ahead as you come down creating an outside in steep club path. Focus on swinging more around your body to remedy this. A good drill is to strap your upper arms to your body and hit balls. This makes it impossible to throw the shoulder forward. Don't forget to accelerate through the ball. When you slow down at the bottom of your swing, you will hit it fat every time.

Push carts are becoming more popular in recent years. These carts roll on 3 wheels but you push these along the course instead of pulling them. Many people feel less strain on their back since you stand more upright and don't have to slightly twist around as you do with the pull carts. A breaking system of some kind keeps the cart from rolling away from you when you have to leave it on an incline. Check out how the cart folds and how much room it may take up in your trunk. Companies are developing them to fold up smaller and smaller with little effort and without having to remove any parts.

Some things to know and practice: First, and most important search and ask around about a respected golf instructor in your area, and get them to give you information on their program prior to starting an instructional series. You don't want someone giving you advice who is not qualified, and can impart poor information that can create bad habits.

To start with a proven ball position. Moving a golf ball even two inches forward or back in your stance can make a great deal of difference in shot consistency. Start with the ball a couple of inches inside the left heel. After you master this consistent ball position, you can experiment with other ball positions. However, a ball too far to the front of your stance will increase the chances of a slice by encouraging an outside-to-inside swing. A ball too far back in the stance will make it difficult to get the clubface closed by impact and may cause a push or a push slice
